Nepal - The Ministry of Health and Food Safety and World Health Organization, with support from the European Commission, completed detailed energy assessments and dissemination sessions at four hospitals across Nepal to support the development of the country’s National Oxygen Roadmap. Conducted between November and December 2025, the assessments covered the full energy systems of Nepal APF Hospital, Province Hospital Surkhet, Bakulahar Ratnanagar Hospital and Dolpa District Hospital, establishing hospital-wide energy baselines, evaluating power quality and backup systems, and assessing the energy requirements and reliability of medical oxygen systems, including Pressure Swing Adsorption plants and oxygen concentrators. Dolpa District Hospital, one of Nepal's most geographically isolated facilities with no on-site oxygen generation, was assessed for energy resilience and oxygen supply chain vulnerability. The programme identified cost-saving energy efficiency measures, and developed site-specific solar PV and battery storage recommendations to safeguard critical services such as oxygen plants, ICUs and emergency departments during power outages. Findings were shared with hospital leadership and technical teams in March 2026, providing cost-effective, actionable roadmaps for implementation. The assessments will now directly inform Nepal’s National Oxygen Roadmap and future investments aimed at strengthening resilient, energy-secure health facilities that can sustain life-saving services.
